About The Position

BRTA is seeking a Fixed Route Operator, also known as a Routed Coach Operator. This role involves operating a coach on a fixed route, ensuring customer satisfaction, safety, and adherence to schedules. The position requires a commitment to safety, environmental responsibility, and excellent customer service.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • 3 years verifiable driving record
  • Valid Massachusetts driver license
  • Clean driving record – DMV printout required
  • Stable work history
  • Ability to obtain a CDL Class B with Passenger and Airbrakes Endorsement
  • Ability to correctly use all electronic technology after training
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL B with Passenger endorsement preferred

Responsibilities

  • Ensure customers feel welcome and provide assistance as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with passengers, especially during service disruptions, and provide information such as schedules and guidance.
  • Practice defensive driving, anticipate potential hazards, and react appropriately to avoid accidents.
  • Ensure safe on-road operations while maintaining on-time performance.
  • Be familiar with assigned routing and detours, including those due to inclement weather.
  • Be aware of ADA Policies and Procedures to ensure compliance.
  • Properly operate all wheelchair lifts, including manual operation for each bus model.
  • Report immediately to dispatch any vehicular accident or passenger incident and follow reporting procedures.
  • Assist and help passengers with mobility devices, such as wheelchairs or walkers.
  • Assist passengers with boarding and properly securing wheelchairs.
  • Collect the prescribed fare media and notify dispatch of any fare evasion or fraud.
  • Perform pre and post-trip inspections and enter all defects on DVIR forms.
  • Follow exact deadhead routing and assigned revenue service routes.
  • Depart the start of each route exactly on-time and never operate ahead of schedule.
  • Wear uniforms at all times while in service and maintain a clean and professional appearance.
  • Keep the vehicle clean and sanitary during their shift.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
