About The Position

Plans, schedules and implements or manages all inspection activities in assigned unit or area including on-stream, shutdown and offsite inspections utilizing Sasol’s IDMS. Works closely with the unit, maintenance, & technology teams to define improvement opportunities and maximize mechanical reliability through inspections. In addition, works with the other discipline peers to deliver a results-oriented Reliability Centered Culture.

Requirements

High School Diploma or GED.
API certifications: API 510, API 570 or API 653 – required
10+ years mechanical integrity experience (as defined by API 510, API 570 or API 653). in Petrochemical and/or Refinery - required
4+ years performing API Inspections with one of the following certifications: API 510, API 570 or API 653 – required
3+ years as a unit inspector – required
Demonstrated proficiency of current ASME and API codes.
Highly effective interpersonal skills, accountability, and professionalism.
Proven ability to work effectively both independently and in a team-based environment.
Proficient computer skills with Microsoft Suite, SAP, and GE APM.
Proficient in technical writing.
Data driven decision making, attention to detail, cultural sensitivity, excellent time management skills, a professional demeanor, and unquestionable integrity.

Nice To Haves

One or more supplemental Certification (API, CWI, NACE, etc.) – Preferred
API-580 Certification – preferred
Non-Destructive Examination Technical Training and/or Certifications – preferred
Technical writing, presentations, and professional communication training - preferred
Experience with APM software -Preferred
Background in Non-Destructive Examination – preferred

Responsibilities

Performs pressure vessel, piping, storage tank, boiler and heater inspections in accordance to industry standards.
Coordinates supplemental inspection efforts from contract inspection services and insurance boiler inspectors.
Reviews supplemental inspection results to ensure recommendations are consistent with the Complex’s program. Enters recommendations into SAP.
Provides quality assurance over repairs to existing equipment to ensure that repair materials and techniques, including welding methods, are done in accordance with API codes.
Prepares and maintains data-based records and historical records related to fixed equipment inspections and keeps management informed on all inspection activities and reports all inspection activities to supervision.
Inspects new equipment prior to installation to insure proper materials of construction and compliance with specifications and applicable codes. Performs API visuals, documents the visual inspection once the asset is set into place.
Works with maintenance, engineering and operations to develop remediation plans.
Collaborates with engineering and maintenance personnel on code requirements.
Tracks deficiencies until the deficiency is corrected.
Inspects in accordance with Mechanical Integrity inspection procedures.
Makes recommendations to Operations and Maintenance regarding repairs and/or equipment replacement.
Develops & follows repair scopes for fixed equipment and piping for other inspectors or supervision review and approval.
Active participation in business unit and maintenance meetings.
Maintain an effective and professional relationship with maintenance, operations, engineering and inspection department peers.
Ability to plan prior to and coordinate inspection activities during an outage.
Perform code required calculations like thickness minimum, remaining life and corrosion rate.
Identify, communicate, and ensure reconciliation of discrepancies between field conditions and Process Safety Information (PSI) or Engineering Controlled Documents discovered during the execution of reliability activities.
Lead meetings with supervision and business units.
Maintain an effective and professional relationship with business unit and supervision.
Develop, review, and update inspection procedures for the site.
Serve as inspection department SME for your assigned units or functional area in the facility.
