About The Position

CenterPoint Energy is hiring a Fitter Helper to perform fitter-apprentice work supporting the safe and adequate delivery of gas utility services. The role performs gas utility construction activities according to its classification and requires completion of all required training and Operator Qualifications. The employee operates equipment used for main and service installations, leak investigations, and leak surveys. The position also involves maintaining a neat appearance and working courteously and efficiently with internal and external customers. Other duties may be assigned, including service watch. This is a non-exempt position, and the company may add to or change its duties.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Basic math skills.
• Written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic mechanical knowledge and ability to use tools and equipment.
• Must be physically and mentally capable of working in or on gas facilities.
• Must be available to work overtime.
• Must have a CDL or be willing to obtain one within 60 days of hire.
• Must live within 30 miles of the reporting headquarters.

Nice To Haves

• Construction and/or HVAC experience is helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

• Perform fitter-apprentice work to maintain safe and adequate services to customers.
• Perform gas utility construction work activities according to classification.
• Complete all training and Operator Qualifications requirements for the classification.
• Operate equipment used for main installs, service installs, leak investigations, and leak surveys.
• Work with internal and external customers in a courteous and efficient manner while maintaining a neat appearance.
• Perform other assigned work, including service watch.
• Learn and follow safety rules associated with job duties.
