About The Position

Fitness Manager at Kissing Tree, a 55+ active adult community in San Marcos, Texas. This role involves leading the day-to-day operation and development of the fitness and wellness offerings, overseeing facilities and programming, leading employees and fitness professionals, managing the department budget, building relationships with outside wellness partners, and creating experiences that support residents' health, connection, and quality of life. Requirements

  • Professional experience leading fitness, wellness, recreation, aquatics, or a related operation.
  • Experience supervising employees, contractors, instructors, or service providers.
  • Current AFAA, ACE, NASM, or similar fitness certification required.
  • Experience developing and delivering fitness or wellness programming.
  • Budget management experience, including general ledger review and variance analysis.
  • Strong customer service and de-escalation skills.
  • Strong organization, prioritization, communication, and follow-through.
  • Confidence working with residents, team members, vendors, contractors, and other community partners.
  • Ability to independently make decisions, solve problems, and take ownership through resolution.
  • Must be able to swim proficiently.
  • Must have reliable transportation, a current driver's license, and an acceptable driving record.
  • Must be able to perform the physical requirements of the position, including being on your feet for extended periods and frequently lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field preferred.
  • Nutrition certification preferred.
  • Experience with specialty health and wellness modalities such as body composition analysis and recovery services is a plus.
  • Lifeguard certification is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day operations of the Fitness Center, Indoor Pool, and Outdoor Pool, including scheduling, supplies, equipment maintenance, and facility readiness.
  • Develop and maintain processes for equipment maintenance, repairs, replacement, and preventative maintenance.
  • Establish and continuously improve policies and procedures for fitness, wellness, and pool spaces.
  • Design, develop, and promote fitness, health, and wellness programs that encourage resident participation and engagement.
  • Oversee fitness classes, personal training, and specialty wellness services such as body composition analysis, recovery and wellness modalities, and educational seminars.
  • Coordinate and facilitate fitness classes as needed.
  • Build partnerships with health, wellness, rehabilitation, and fitness providers to expand programming and services available to residents.
  • Lead employees, independent contractors, and service providers while creating a collaborative, service-focused department.
  • Hire, train, coach, supervise, and performance manage team members.
  • Develop staffing schedules, responsibilities, and performance expectations that support both operational needs and the resident experience.
  • Select and manage independent contractors and other fitness and wellness service providers.
  • Manage the Fitness Department's annual operating budget, including approximately $370,000 in program revenue and $270,000 in program and equipment expenses.
  • Review the general ledger monthly, analyze variances, and make thoughtful budget recommendations.
  • Balance strong resident programming with responsible stewardship of community resources.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response protocols for the Fitness Center and pool areas.
  • Coordinate First Aid, AED, CPR, and emergency response education and readiness across the team.
  • Help residents and guests safely and confidently use fitness equipment and wellness spaces.
  • Provide responsive, service-minded support and help resolve concerns when they arise.
