About The Position

A Fitness Center Technician at the Betsie Hosick Health and Fitness Center is responsible for various tasks to ensure the smooth operation of the fitness center and provide excellent service to members. This role involves meeting the physical demands of the job, maintaining a safe and welcoming environment, managing appointments and classes, handling administrative duties, and assisting members with their fitness needs. The position requires a high school education, certifications in First Aid and CPR, and experience in office procedures and public interaction.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • First Aid and CPR certification required.
  • Experience in office procedures required.
  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal relationship skills required.
  • Ability to complete clerical tasks with a high degree of accuracy required.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of this position.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of class activities such as bending, stretching, kneeling, twisting, etc.
  • Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of medical/fitness terminology desired.
  • Previous experience in a fitness center or public contact setting desired.

Responsibilities

  • Meet the physical requirements of the position, including walking, standing, sitting, bending, stretching, kneeling, and twisting.
  • Teach fitness center classes.
  • Ensure job duties are performed safely, utilizing learned body mechanics and lifting techniques.
  • Report any unsafe situations or equipment according to established procedures.
  • Report equipment concerns to the manager and tag equipment out of service if not functioning properly.
  • Schedule appointments and classes for customers, maintaining knowledge of classes offered and pertinent information.
  • Communicate scheduled appointments to program providers.
  • Provide information to members regarding procedures, exercises, classes, and equipment.
  • Inform members about membership rates, options, and other fees.
  • Answer phones and direct inquiries appropriately.
  • Receive, distribute, and file documentation received over facsimile machine.
  • Maintain daily cash sheet.
  • Complete center opening and closing duties.
  • Greet every visitor and center member in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Provide tours to potential members and new members.
  • Instruct and assist new members in proper equipment usage and basic exercise programs.
  • Upgrade and/or change exercise programs as requested by members.
