This position provides support to the Hatchery Manager and/or Hatchery Foreman in the operation and maintenance of fish hatcheries. The role involves directing and monitoring the work of subordinates and staff in all phases of hatchery operation to achieve management goals. Responsibilities include assisting with scheduling, trapping and selecting adult salmon for spawning, egg collection, and preparing tanks and ponds for fry or fingerling. The role also involves monitoring water quality, feeding schedules, fish health, and assisting with treatments. Dissecting salmon for egg retention and viral sampling, consulting on liberation schedules, and driving liberation tank trucks are also part of the duties. The position requires establishing proper feeding schedules for fish growth, collecting and reporting data, maintaining activity logs, and preparing periodic reports. Determining and treating water quality parameters such as dissolved gasses, suspended dissolved solids, temperature, and P.H. levels is also a key responsibility. Additionally, the role assists in maintaining genetic diversity through proper broodstock selection.
