Goodnation employs a structure termed a contract hybrid, consisting of a 501(c)(3) nonprofit called the Goodnation Foundation, a social enterprise called Goodnation Philanthropy Advisors, and a 501(c)(4) called Goodnation Action. Goodnation Foundation and Goodnation Action serve as fiscal sponsors, and Goodnation Philanthropy Advisors has the ability to serve as a fiscal agent. This role will be hired by Goodnation Philanthropy Advisors and will work across all three entities. Position Summary Goodnation Foundation and Goodnation Action provide tax-exempt status along with a suite of tools and services so that charitable projects can confidently raise funds for their cause. In response to our portfolio of projects rapidly growing, we are building out our fiscal sponsorship department, seeking a Fiscal Sponsorship Program Manager to join three other Program Managers, to help strengthen our fiscal sponsorship offerings, better support current and future projects, and manage a portfolio of projects. This role will report to the Chief Operating Officer and also work closely with other Program Managers, the finance team, and the HR team in order to be successful.

Requirements

  • 3-6 years or more working for a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and/or a fiscal sponsor. If no fiscal sponsorship experience, willingness to learn is a must.
  • Have a good understanding of, and experience with, nonprofit and foundation operations
  • Willingness to learn, or experience with, 501(c)(4) nonprofit operations and compliance
  • Willingness to learn, or experience with, lobbying and advocacy guidelines and compliance
  • Strong relationship building and interpersonal skills
  • Organized, attention to detail, takes initiative, anticipates needs
  • Strong project and time management skills, managing varying needs and priorities of multiple projects.
  • Knowledge on, or willingness to learn, softwares such as Quickbooks, Ignite, Mazlo, MultiState, Slack, Hubspot, Adobe, Dropbox Sign, and Google Workspace
  • Commitment to Goodnation’s mission, specifically social justice.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for a portfolio of 12-18 501(c)(3) and 501(c)(4) fiscally sponsored projects, building strong relationships and understanding each project’s mission, team, finances, and needs.
  • Guide projects through the fiscal sponsorship lifecycle, including onboarding, growth, ongoing management, and spin off.
  • Maintain regular communication with project leaders to facilitate operations, troubleshoot issues, provide timely follow-up, and strengthen project support in collaboration with Program Managers, the COO, and the broader team.
  • Maintain project records and accounts in fiscal sponsorship platforms, CRM software, and internal tracking documents, supporting system migrations or implementations as needed.
  • Train project leads and staff, and answer regular questions, on operational processes, platform use, compliance standards, contracts, advocacy rules, and grant management.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, and other teams to ensure smooth operations and strong project support.
  • Gather feedback from projects and help refine internal workflows and procedures to improve efficiency, compliance, and project satisfaction.
  • Provide regular updates to the COO and team on project status, progress, challenges, and impact.
  • Maintain accurate CRM records for projects and contacts during onboarding, staffing changes, and offboarding.
  • Advise project leaders on hiring, contracting, and operational decisions to maintain fiscal health and compliance, bringing in other departments on decision making as necessary.
  • Stay informed on relevant issue areas to share resources with projects
  • Ensure project compliance with nonprofit regulations, fiscal sponsorship requirements, personnel laws, and internal policies, including the distinct compliance considerations for c3 and c4 programs, when applicable.
  • Review project budgets and impact updates to track progress toward fundraising and program goals.
  • Participate in reviewing prospective project applications and join inquiry calls as requested to assess alignment and explain fiscal sponsorship services.
  • Reinforce required fiscal sponsor processes and provide resources that support project compliance and operations.
  • When applicable, support projects in understanding and executing 501(c)(4) activities and lobbying, including definitions, tracking, limits, registration, and compliance requirements, in coordination with Senior Program Managers.
  • Track and request donation details to ensure accurate allocation and timely tax acknowledgments.
  • Coordinate with the Gift Processing Coordinator to ensure gifts are properly received, tracked, and assigned to projects.
  • Review payment requests weekly for accuracy and documentation prior to final approval, and resolve related issues with projects and staff.
  • Work with projects to ensure timely vendor and consultant payments and plan for expenses requiring advance coordination.
  • Ensure grant and donation documentation is complete, properly filed, and that funders have current financial and legal information.
  • Respond to donor questions related to fiscal sponsorship or Goodnation operations.
  • Track project balances and proactively flag financial concerns or upcoming cost-sharing tier changes.
  • Additional responsibilities may arise to improve compliance, strengthen project support, and increase operational efficiency, as assigned by the COO.
