Position Summary: Are you detail-oriented, organized, and experienced in payroll and accounting? Do you enjoy solving problems, working with numbers, and helping ensure financial processes run smoothly and accurately? Join our team as a Fiscal Specialist II and play an important role in supporting EOCF's financial operations. In this position, you will perform a variety of payroll and accounting functions, including assisting with semi-monthly payroll processing, accounts payable and receivable, cash receipts, reconciliations, and financial recordkeeping. You will work closely with employees, supervisors, vendors, and other members of the EOCF team to research discrepancies, maintain accurate and confidential records, and provide timely and responsive fiscal support.

Requirements

  • Three years of professional accounting experience, including at least one year of payroll processing experience.
  • Knowledge of Accounting principles and practices, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts, and reconciliation processes.
  • Knowledge of Payroll administration, recordkeeping, reporting, benefit deductions, garnishments, and federal and state payroll tax requirements.
  • Knowledge of Job costing and cost allocation methods, including coding expenses across programs, grants, sites, and cost centers.
  • Knowledge of Computerized payroll and accounting systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of Financial recordkeeping practices and maintaining accurate, organized, and confidential documentation.
  • Must be bondable.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of college or business school with major coursework in accounting.
  • Experience with job costing, cost allocation, grant-funded accounting, or nonprofit accounting is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with full-cycle, in-house semi-monthly payroll processing, including reviewing time records, employee payroll changes, deductions, adjustments, and corrections.
  • Review payroll information for accuracy and research and resolve discrepancies with employees and supervisors.
  • Process accounts payable and receivable transactions, verify supporting documentation and approvals, and accurately code transactions to appropriate accounts, programs, grants, sites, and cost allocation categories.
  • Prepare and assist with journal entries, account reconciliations, payroll schedules, tax reporting, audits, and month-end and year-end accounting activities.
  • Receive, record, and reconcile cash receipts, including classroom copayments, petty cash activity, refunds, donations, grants, and other payments.
  • Perform detailed payroll and accounting functions accurately while managing multiple priorities and recurring deadlines.
  • Use critical thinking and sound judgment to independently research discrepancies, analyze information, and resolve problems.
  • Maintain accurate, current, organized, and confidential payroll, financial, employee, and agency records.
  • Prepare accurate reconciliations, reports, correspondence, and basic statistical or narrative information.
  • Communicate financial and payroll information professionally, accurately, and respectfully to employees, supervisors, vendors, families, and community partners.
  • Build productive and collaborative working relationships with coworkers and individuals from varying backgrounds.
  • Receive feedback constructively, seek guidance when appropriate, and take responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work.
  • Attend staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities as assigned.
