About The Position

The Fiscal Specialist in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication Business Office will perform a variety of complex and technical fiscal processes and analysis with minimal oversight. The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to: processing purchasing requests, travel vouchers and payroll functions; creating, maintaining and analyzing data for management reports; being heavily involved with accounting processes for the yearly external Corporation for Public Broadcasting audit; tuition management and Summer Session calculations; using independent judgment to perform more complex duties associated with the complete purchasing process including bid processing, sole-source purchasing and P-card control and reconciliation; process and administer grant applications and budgets; assist in the analysis of budgets for the College as a whole, departments and projects. Additional duties may also include cash handling, answering the switchboard for the business office, and assisting Contracts Specialist.

Requirements

  • Two years of experience at a level equivalent to Fiscal Specialist 1 AND 15 quarter hours OR 10 semester hours of college level accounting; OR equivalent education/experience.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience, including problem solving, multi-tasking, and ability to work with others.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to learn specialized software.
  • Experience maintaining, monitoring, reporting, and/or correcting purchasing and/or travel and/or payroll records or relevant experience.
  • Experience working with confidential documents.
  • Experience with budget and/or purchasing card reconciliation.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate using verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience working in an academic setting.
  • Knowledge of WSU policies and procedures concerning purchasing/travel functions.
  • Knowledge of Business Objects, WSU online mainframe (AIS), and WorkDay business systems and electronic forms.
  • Experience with purchasing and cash handling in a work setting.
