Reno-Sparks Indian Colony: Who We Are The Reno-Sparks Indian Colony (RSIC) is a federally recognized tribal government dedicated to the economic and social advancement of its people. Established in the early 1900s and formally recognized under the Indian Reorganization Act of 1934, the RSIC represents over 1,100 members of the Paiute, Shoshone, and Washoe Tribes—Three Tribes, One Nation. Our lands include the original 28-acre Colony in central west Reno and a 1,920-acre community in Hungry Valley, located 19 miles north of the Colony in the scenic Eagle Canyon region of Nevada. The RSIC is a vibrant and growing organization that honors traditional teachings and cultural heritage while embracing modern business practices and innovative governance. What it's like to be a Fiscal Intermediary at Fiscal Intermediary As a Full Time Fiscal Intermediary at the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony, you will play a crucial role in the management of Purchased and Referred Care (PRC) and Tribal Medicaid Federally Qualified Health Centers (TMFQHC) claims. Operating under the direct supervision of the Referral Department Manager, you will determine referral eligibility for payments in accordance with federal regulations and evaluate provider agreements to ensure compliance. Your responsibilities include auditing claims for accuracy, initiating payments, and maintaining meticulous fiscal records while ensuring confidentiality. You'll serve as the key contact for provider groups regarding program coverage and billing requirements. Your attention to detail will aid in the timely adjudication of claims, while your proactive communication will enhance stakeholder relationships. Additionally, you will monitor PRC funds, track potential cases requiring special attention, and contribute to quality assurance efforts, making a significant impact on the overall efficiency of care delivery.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of two years of experience in a medical billing environment or with medical claims.
  • Proficiency in modern office practices and basic accounting procedures is crucial.
  • A strong command of business English, spelling, grammar, and arithmetic.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, enabling seamless information exchange with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • The ability to build professional relationships within the health community and maintain confidentiality is paramount.
  • Adept at managing multiple tasks, adhering to deadlines, and working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Familiarity with business software such as Word, Excel, Access, and presentation tools like PowerPoint.
  • A sensitivity to cultural needs and knowledge of the Indian community further enrich your ability to serve in this capacity.
  • High School Diploma or GED; Required
  • Two years’ experience in a medical billing setting and/or working with medical claims; Required
  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screen and background investigation.
  • Knowledge of modern office practices, procedures and equipment
  • Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation and basic arithmetic
  • Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in order to gather and exchange information with individuals both inside and outside of the organization.
  • Knowledge of records management and basic accounting procedures
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work with people from diverse cultures ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds with knowledge of Indian community and sensitivity to needs
  • Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with professional groups and health providers at all levels.
  • Ability to represent the organization in a professional manner building respect and confidence.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to carry out instructions furnished in verbal or written format.
