About The Position

Under direction, plans, organizes and administers the fiscal operations of a division or department; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies throughout the County as they occur.

Requirements

  • Three years of full-time experience in professional accounting and fiscal management AND a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, public administration, business administration or a closely related field; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A valid driver’s license may be required at the time of appointment, and if required, must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • Must reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.
  • Pass a background investigation which includes: Submit a set of fingerprints, Complete and submit a personal history statement, Pass a Computerized Voice Stress Analysis (CVSA) examination.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working in a public agency on complex budget(s) with multiple funding sources, including planning, management, monitoring and forecasting.
  • Understanding and experience with governmental accounting and budget, financial analysis, and debt management.
  • Experience with state and federal grants, technical grant administration, automated grant management systems, compliance and best practices in grant administration.
  • SAP experience is highly desirable.
  • Desire to help make government more effective and efficient by identifying innovative solutions.
  • Supportive of the County team and being intellectually curious.
  • Ability to take ownership of problems to find solutions; share resources, information and knowledge; and will encourage commitment to the County vision, mission and organizational priorities.
  • Clear articulation of position, process and opinion concisely and constructively.
  • Open and effective verbal and written communication including critical thinking and problem solving in a team cooperative environment.
  • Sound analytical skills which include both inductive and deductive elements.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to be diligently detailed and process oriented.

Responsibilities

  • Manage, monitor and forecast complex budgets with multiple funding sources.
  • Ensure compliance and best practices in grant administration.

  • Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
