About The Position

Montgomery County Finance is an innovative, award-winning finance operation, responsible for prudently managing taxpayer funds, establishing and implementing sound fiscal policies, and safeguarding public assets. WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR The Department of Finance, Division of Treasury, is seeking to hire a Fiscal Assistant. The primary purpose of this position is to provide front-line assistance and general accounting support to Montgomery County departments and agencies and the public. A successful candidate must be able to develop and maintain superior customer service skills; exercise sound professional judgment when dealing with sensitive situations and challenging customers; function in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment; and possess excellent written and oral communication skills.

Requirements

  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible, fiscally-related clerical experience (e.g., posting journal entries, processing fiscal actions using automated systems) including demonstrated proficiency with integrated word processing and spreadsheet functions.
  • Completion of an Associate of Arts degree with a major in Accounting or completion of 12 acceptable college credit hours in Accounting.
  • An equivalent combination of education and work experience may be substituted.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with the annotated Code of Maryland; preference for experience with the Annotated Code’s Tax Property Article.
  • Experience working with the public in a customer service representative or similar role.
  • Experience using the Microsoft Office Suite including using Excel for administering taxes.
  • Experience with the Oracle E-Business Suite, MUNIS property tax system, Siebel, or other similar Internet-based computer applications to enter and retrieve data.
  • Experience multi-tasking in a deadline-oriented environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide front-line assistance and general accounting support to Montgomery County departments and agencies and the public.

  • Be cross-trained to support multiple functions within the Division of Treasury including, but not limited to cashiering, excise, property tax, and transfer/recordation sections.
  • Process tax information and payments.
  • Prepare and reconcile daily transfer/recordation batch work.
  • Assist with electronic transfer processes and cashier processing of property tax bills.
  • Process photo citation and parking fines.
  • Process cash transactions.
  • Make daily deposits.
  • Reconcile daily receipts.
  • Prepare for appeals cases.
  • Process refunds.
  • Respond to customer service inquiries.
