About The Position

The Fiscal Assistant II administrative clerical position with responsibility for a broad range of largely self-directed work in support of the Children’s Services Act (CSA) of Staunton, Augusta County and Waynesboro. This position requires knowledge of, and the ability to apply Children’s Services Act laws and policies to expenditures; as well as a high degree of competency and accuracy in processing financial records and exercising effective skills in customer service and communication. This position supports the completion of CSA purchase orders for the use of CSA funds and supports the CSA Program Coordinator Supervisor and three Utilization Review Coordinators, working closely with the CSA account clerk to ensure timely and accurate payments to vendors for a wide variety of service types. This position is responsible for assisting in the fiscal control of three localities: Augusta County, and the Cities of Waynesboro and Staunton. This position performs governmental accounting tasks associated with the preparation, maintenance, and processing of accounting records and financial transactions for Children’s Services Act bills. Responsibilities include maintaining accounting records concerning invoices.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of, and the ability to apply Children’s Services Act laws and policies to expenditures.
  • High degree of competency and accuracy in processing financial records.
  • Effective skills in customer service and communication.
  • Considerable knowledge of the application of established bookkeeping and accounting principles, and accounting transactions.
  • Working knowledge of office accounting methods and procedures.
  • Skill in operating a personal computer, associated accounting software including spreadsheets, a calculator, and other office machines.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize and effectively process and maintain financial records and files and prepare reports from them.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and record information and to balance figures.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand or apply laws, regulations and policies to the maintenance of financial records.
  • Demonstrated ability to verify documents and forms for accuracy and completeness.
  • Demonstrated ability to type accurately at good speed.
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion and initiative in completing assignments and in dealing with other employees and the general public.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Minimum of a high school diploma supplemented with bookkeeping coursework, and related fiscal support experience using business and agency software to include spreadsheets OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Driving record must meet agency requirements.
