About The Position

Under minimum supervision, perform difficult financial accounting functions; maintain accounting records; receive and be accountable for all funds; prepare financial statements and claims; assist in budget preparation, direct accounting technicians.

Requirements

  • Graduation from high school or equivalent.
  • Two years high-level accounting experience in a public agency.
  • Knowledge of double-entry bookkeeping practice and theory; work paper preparation; audit trail techniques and record keeping requirements; office machines, computers, and filing systems; budgeting, journals and bank statement reconciliation.
  • Knowledge of SACS account code structure.
  • Ability to assist in maintaining a fiscal record system in a school district; instruct and train accounting technicians and clerical personnel in the use of computerized spreadsheets, computer accounting programs, accounting principles and techniques and record keeping; use of computerized accounting systems; work closely and effectively with managers and others throughout the district; communicate clearly and effectively with employees and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Some college-level courses in accounting.
  • Two years high-level accounting experience in a public school district.
  • Experience in multiple facets of agency fund accounting, supplemented with professional courses in school district accounting techniques.
  • Experience with QSS software.
  • Knowledge of computerized accounting programs, including stand-alone and network systems; spread-sheeting techniques and word processing; account code systems and program budgeting theory; district policy and regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with accounting technicians engaged in the financial and statistical accounting and record keeping of the district.
  • Review records processed and advise personnel on accounting problems and procedures.
  • Assist in the training of accounting personnel.
  • Direct and assist in setting up records and forms for gathering and maintaining data for district-wide accounting purposes.
  • Work closely with the Technical Services Department on computer-related accounting matters.
  • Upgrade reports and methods of accounting and record keeping.
  • Confer with managers and other employees of the district regarding their budgets and financial reports.
  • Prepare and provide statistical reports as required by the Director of Finance.
  • Maintain a computerized employee position control system.
  • Prepare mandated cost claims and other claims and reports to the state and county.
  • Perform other duties as required.
