About The Position

Fiscal Analyst 1 We are hiring for a Fiscal Analyst 1. In this position, you'll handle variety accounting functions including maintaining and monitoring payroll system and reconcile payroll reports. This position reports to the Fiscal Analyst 5 for the payroll team. You will consult and guide staff on all time and attendance issues. Opportunities performed on - site at this work location at least three days a week may be eligible for an additional 5% premium pay in addition to the advertised salary. Pierce County employees are eligible to receive an Orca Card for transportation needs.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree, with a minimum of 12 semesters or 18 quarter hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting.
  • Professional experience may substitute for education, but not for the accounting, audit, or budget-related credit hours.
  • Accuracy – Processing fiscal data and auditing transactions demands precision and consistency.
  • Communication – You'll be coordinating with a wide range of internal teams and external partners, so clarity and professionalism are essential.
  • Confidentiality – You’ll be handling sensitive financial and patient information; trust and discretion are non-negotiable.
  • Technology proficiency – A solid working knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, and the ability to learn systems like AFRS, Acumatica, and Enterprise Reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting standards – Familiarity with GAAP, SAAM, and DSHS policy ensures your work aligns with state and federal regulations.
  • Problem-solving – You’ll frequently need to spot inconsistencies, flag discrepancies, and resolve financial issues before they impact operations.

Nice To Haves

  • A master's degree in a financial related field; or certification as a Public Accountant, Internal Auditor, Certified Governmental Financial Manager, or Management Accountant can be substituted for professional experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead staff in absence of the Time and Attendance supervisor by monitoring and assigning workloads to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Assist staff with proper course of actions for discrepancies within the payroll process.
  • Analyze data for special reports by Administrations.
  • Verify and enter in Leave Tracker, SILAS, and HRMS payroll systems.
  • Conduct fiscal calculations of part-time hours, part-time holiday accruals, shift differential, overtime, standby, leave without pay, schedule changes, and etc.
  • Assist employees with time and attendance questions, and be the point of contact for Facilities and DSHS Payroll office.
  • Participate in general accounting and reconciliation duties, ensuring fiscal integrity and timely reporting.
