About The Position

Under the supervision of the Area Director of Surgical Services, the Surgical Assistant assists the operating surgeon in the care of patients in surgery and performs selected duties. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, professional, and efficient environment for surgical patients, ensuring asepsis and demonstrating knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it relates to surgical procedures. The position also involves representing Firelands Regional Medical Center (FRMC) to the community as an ambassador and advocate.

Requirements

CSTFA or RN.
Candidate must have or be working toward being a graduate of an accredited program and certified as a Certified Surgical Technician Certified First Assist (CSTCFA) or a Registered Nurse First Assistant (CRNFA).
Minimum of four (4) years related experience in the Operating Room.
Strong attention to details, high degree of persuasiveness.

Responsibilities

Assists and scrubs in surgery.
Maintains homeostasis, handling of tissue, and closing of wound layers as directed by the surgeon.
Prepares for all cases by having the correct working equipment, instrumentation, and supplies.
Facilitates timely starts by supervising or performing the opening of the case, positioning, catheter placement prepping and draping so that the schedule flows smoothly.
Maintains and updates self-knowledge and skill of instruments, equipment, and specialty techniques.
Provides a safe, professional and efficient environment for the surgical patient, maintaining asepsis and knowledge of anatomy and physiology as it relates to the surgical procedure.
Maintains established company/hospital policies, procedures, directives, quality assurance, safety, environmental and infection control standards appropriate to this position.
Represents FRMC to the community.
Acts as an ambassador and advocate for FRMC.
