About The Position

Eaton’s Energy Transition Team is currently seeking a Firmware Engineering Intern / Co-op. This position can either be a rotational co-op assignment, or a Summer 2027 internship. The Firmware Engineering Intern / Co-op is responsible for supporting the creative design and development of connected home energy management systems, intelligent vehicle-to-home/grid (V2X) power management products, plus other electric power grid system solutions. The Firmware Engineering Intern / Co-op will support firmware development, testing, and integration efforts. This position will contribute to the overall functionality of a product with involvement from project initiation through manufacturing launch, plus ongoing developments or feature enhancements. The Product Development Firmware Engineer will work closely with the Engineering Manager, Program Manager, other Firmware Engineers, Cyber Security Engineers, System Architects, Electrical Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers to develop the products in an organized and expedient fashion per our Pro-Launch process.

Requirements

  • Must be actively enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in Computer Science or Computer Engineering or similar from an accredited institution with graduation no later than August 2029.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

Nice To Haves

  • Experienced with C / C++, and Python
  • Exposure to RTOS-based development on embedded microcontrollers
  • Exposure to embedded communication interfaces such as SPI, I2C, UART, etc.

Responsibilities

  • Develop firmware and software for embedded systems/micro-controllers along with integrating and test tools for embedded systems.
  • Support firmware / software development using code repositories, code reviews, build servers, and both agile and Test-Driven Development (TDD) methods.
  • Support Hardware in the Loop (HIL) testing and support automation using lab tools.
  • Support continuous integration / continuous development (CI/CD) process through build automation workflow participation.
  • Work with wireless technologies utilizing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
  • Support the enhancement of existing products and services based on evaluations of existing and new technologies per Eaton’s strategic plans.
  • Contribute to international project teams assigned to research, design, develop, test and/or launch new innovations.
