About The Position

The Town of Mooresville is seeking motivated and dedicated Firefighters to perform firefighting, rescue, and emergency medical services in support of Fire-Rescue operations. This position participates in 48-hour shift operations and is subject to call-back response. Firefighters respond to fire suppression, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents, and mutual aid calls while maintaining readiness through training, equipment maintenance, and station duties. This role requires the ability to perform effectively under stressful emergency conditions, exercise sound judgment, and work safely in hazardous environments. Firefighters operate with a high level of independence while adhering to established standards, procedures, and safety requirements.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Firefighter II certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain North Carolina Class B driver’s license within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain Emergency Vehicle Driving certification within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain NIMS 100, 200, 700, and 800 certifications within one (1) year of hire.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to fire, medical, hazardous materials, and rescue calls, including mutual aid responses.
  • Assist in fire suppression activities such as rescue, entry, ventilation, salvage, and overhaul operations.
  • Connect to hydrants, deploy hoses, and apply water or fire suppression agents.
  • Search for and rescue occupants from structures and hazardous environments.
  • Assist EMS personnel and provide emergency medical care within scope of certification.
  • Perform routine maintenance and servicing of apparatus and equipment, including inspecting hoses, hydrants, and tools.
  • Maintain cleanliness and functionality of fire stations, apparatus bays, and grounds.
  • Participate in continuing education, training drills, and certification programs.
  • Participate in fire prevention, public education, and community outreach activities, including tours and smoke detector installations.
  • Complete incident reports and maintain accurate documentation in reporting systems.
  • Drive and operate fire apparatus when assigned and properly position equipment at incident scenes.
  • Serve in the absence of senior firefighters once trained and as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as required.
