About The Position

Performs all functions at emergency scenes as directed by superior officers. This role requires participation in fire drills, driving emergency vehicles when necessary, performing general maintenance on equipment and facilities, and maintaining all work-related training. The job demands the ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions, and communicate effectively. The work environment involves frequent exposure to hazardous conditions such as moving mechanical parts, high places, fumes, chemicals, extreme weather, electrical shock, explosives, radiation, and vibration. The noise level is typically very loud. Physical demands include frequent standing, walking, sitting, reaching, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, and the ability to regularly lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Kentucky Driver’s License.
  • Current Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT).
  • Certified EMT-B within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all functions at emergency scenes as directed by superior officers.
  • Participates in fire drills.
  • Drives emergency vehicles to emergency in the absence of the Engineer.
  • Performs general maintenance work in the upkeep of equipment, property, and facility.
  • Maintains all work-related training.
