About The Position

Reporting to a Platoon Chief, this position will participate in a training and development program to become a qualified Aircraft Rescue Firefighter (ARFF) at Halifax Stanfield International Airport. ARFF are responsible for providing specialized aircraft rescue firefighting and to ensure protection of the airport community and traveling public. ARFF are also responsible for providing medical first response support to the traveling public and airport community. Key activities include response to aircraft incidents, medical first response, fuel spill mitigation, fire prevention inspections and maintenance of equipment. These positions will be assigned to a Platoon, on an as required bases, to maintain Platoon complements of eight (8). Should a permanent vacancy occur on a Platoon, based on ranking from this competitive process, the senior Firefighter shall be permanently assigned a position on a Platoon.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of secondary school or equivalent
  • NFPA 1001 (Level 1 & 2) standard certification
  • Minimum 5 years experience as a Firefighter
  • Current Medical First Responder certification
  • Valid Class 3 driver’s license with Air Brake Endorsement
  • Demonstrated ability to work as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated ability to operate in stressful situations
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing
  • Demonstrated ability to make decisions
  • Demonstrated ability to learn and apply new skills and knowledge
  • Medical Clearance
  • Physical Fitness Test
  • Restricted Area Identification Card
  • Airside Vehicle Operators Permit and Radio License
  • CARs 323.14 – Personnel Training for ARFF
  • Passport

Nice To Haves

  • Airport Firefighting experience, with NFPA 1003 certification
