About The Position

Wilmington Fire Department is hiring a Firefighter Paramedic to combine firefighting and patient care while delivering high-quality care. The role responds to emergency fire scenes, performs fire suppression and rescue operations, operates fire equipment and apparatus, and conducts fire and home safety activities. The position also involves professional collaboration with allied health and public safety personnel, fellow firefighters, government agencies, and the community.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
• State driver’s license.
• State-issued Illinois BOF certification.
• State-issued or National Registered EMT-P certification.
• Current ACLS certification if the applicant is an EMT-P.
• Current AHA CPR/AED certification.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency fire scenes and assist with fire suppression using appropriate extinguishing agents.
• Operate fire equipment and gear for fire suppression and control; drive and operate fire apparatus.
• Conduct search and rescue, ventilation, and salvage operations.
• Conduct fire safety, home safety, fire extinguisher, and pre-fire planning inspections.
• Work collaboratively and professionally with allied health and public safety personnel, fellow firefighters, and government agencies.
• Participate in community programs to maintain company image and establish strong community relations.
