The Uncertified Firefighter/EMT shall be a sworn firefighting position. Upon acceptance of this position, the selected applicant shall pass an NFPA 1583 physical and will be required to pass this physical annually along with passing the required annual physical assessments. The uncertified firefighter will have to complete a rigorous fire academy within the permitted time given by the Fire Chief or designee. Once they have completed the fire academy and obtained their Hazardous Materials Operations, Firefighter 1 and 2, NWCG S-130/190/L-180 certifications, all required NIMS certifications, driver operator, basic EMS for firefighters and an approved CPR course, they will be assigned to a shift. While on shift, they will be expected to continue training, respond to emergencies, complete apparatus and facility checks, keep equipment stocked and maintained, and all other duties assigned by the Fire Chief or designee. They will then begin their Emergency Medical Technician Basic training and upon course completion, they will be given a maximum of 3 opportunities to pass the National Registry test. Once they complete all above items, they will be recognized as a certified firefighter. This position is a 48 hours on duty/96 hours off duty scheduled position; however, during training, this position may work 40 hours a week until completion of the fire academy. This position may be subject to the 7K Fire Exemption under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Employee may be required to work irregular hours, attend job-related meetings both in and out of town, and perform all other duties as assigned.
