About The Position

This is the fourth level in the fire series. Incumbents drive fire department vehicles in emergency and non-emergency situations and perform basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment or coordinate and provide responses to medical emergencies and operate rescue truck apparatus. Incumbents are responsible for driving fire department vehicles may schedule routine and non-routine maintenance; place apparatus at incidents; dispatch equipment and personnel; and operate a variety of fire department vehicles. Incumbents responsible for coordinating and providing a response to medical emergencies may develop and implement medical protocols, perform motor vehicle extrications; and operate all medical equipment on a rescue truck. The following duties are normal for this position. However, they are not to be construed as exclusive or all–inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily. Other duties may also be required or assigned. Drives emergency vehicles, including rescue trucks, to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls. Places rescue truck at emergency and non-emergency scenes. Ensures the proper condition, maintenance, and appearance of apparatus, and equipment; performs basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment; schedules routine and non-routine maintenance; prepares apparatus and equipment for immediate response. Provides emergency medical care at a basic and advanced life support level; extinguishes fires; and performs related life and property protection. May develop and implement medical protocols. Maintains logs of activities and enters data into computer system. Participates in the daily functions of the fire station, which may include housekeeping and cooking and/or other related duties. Performs other duties of a similar nature or level. Performs other related work as required.

Requirements

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Valid Class D driver’s license
• Firefighter I & II Certifications
• Current State Emergency Medical Responder License or higher.
• Approved Extrication Class
• A pre-employment criminal background check is required.

Nice To Haves

• Preferably two (2) years of experience as a firefighter
