About The Position

The Team Lead operates a business within a business, primarily focusing on the daily operations of the used firearms business. This role encompasses three key phases: buying, selling, and providing firearms customer service. The Team Lead is responsible for initiating all 4473 forms with customers and conducting the final check of applicable company, state, and federal forms before a firearm transfer. The position emphasizes creating a fair-trade environment and a customer-satisfaction selling culture, with the goal of achieving monthly sales goals and maximizing profit through the acquisition, sale, and trade of pre-owned firearms. Key functions include evaluating and appraising used firearms, requiring knowledge of fair market values, professional negotiation skills, research, and a high degree of firearms identification expertise. The Team Leader manages used firearm inventory, aiming for the highest possible profit margin. They maintain inventory through daily buying and actively seek leads for gun collections outside the store, monitoring local auctions, estate sales, and other supply avenues. Compliance with all Local, State, and Federal firearms regulations, as an employee of an ATF FFL licensed dealer, is mandatory, including conducting monthly ATF compliance and company-required audits. The role also involves merchandising used firearms, proactively arranging merchandise, and collaborating with Internet Specialists to recommend firearms for online posting that promise high margins and quick sales. Communication with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team is essential. A significant part of the role is training and educating Outfitters on various aspects of the used firearms business, such as acquisition, disposal, sales trends, policy updates, negotiation skills, and identification resources. Additionally, the Team Lead participates in ongoing training related to firearms, shooting products, diverse shooting disciplines, systems, compliance, and selling techniques. Providing high-quality customer service on the sales floor, handling phone calls, developing customer relationships, answering firearm-related questions, quoting prices, and resolving customer issues using good judgment are also critical responsibilities.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent experience
  • 2-4 years experience
  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Safely handle firearms
  • Knowledge of purchasing firearms by either working in the firearms industry or collecting firearms
  • Good understanding of retail and a knowledge of computers
  • Background in current firearms models
  • Able to appraise and know the marketable value of used firearms
  • Must have a great work ethic and ability to multi task

Responsibilities

  • Operate the daily operations of the used firearms business, including buying, selling, and customer service.
  • Initiate all 4473 forms with customers.
  • Conduct the final check of applicable company, state, and federal forms prior to a firearm being transferred to the customer.
  • Create a fair-trade environment focusing on a customer-satisfaction selling culture.
  • Reach monthly sales goals to achieve maximum profit through buying, selling, and trading pre-owned firearms.
  • Evaluate and appraise used firearms exhibiting knowledge of fair market values, professional negotiation skills, research, and a high degree of firearms identification knowledge.
  • Control used firearm inventory and obtain the highest % margin based on negotiated acquisition.
  • Maintain inventory through daily buying and cultivating leads for potential buying of gun collections outside of the store.
  • Maintain awareness of local auctions, estate sales, and any other avenue of supply.
  • Comply with all Local, State, and Federal firearms regulations as an employee of an ATF FFL licensed dealer.
  • Conduct monthly ATF compliance audits and company required audits.
  • Merchandise used firearms and be proactive in the arrangement of merchandise.
  • Partner with Internet Specialist recommending to post those firearms that will achieve the highest potential margin and sell quickly.
  • Interact and communicate with Regional Gun Library Managers and the corporate used firearm merchandising team.
  • Train and educate Outfitters on acquiring and disposing of used firearms, current sales trends, policy and procedure updates and changes, negotiation skills, providing resources to properly identify used firearm values, and other educational aspects of the used firearm business.
  • Participate in ongoing training including, but not limited to firearms and shooting product information, diverse shooting discipline awareness, systems training, compliance related training, and selling skills / techniques.
  • Provide highest quality customer service on the sales floor and assisting with customer phone calls.
  • Develop relationships with customers in answering questions about their firearm, quoting a price for their firearm or a retail price of firearms.
  • Respond and handle customer issues by using good judgment and logic in solving problems and making decisions within the job scope.
