About The Position
The Fire Watch plays an essential role in maintaining the safety and security of the facility through attentive monitoring and diligent documentation of fire safety records. Working fewer than 30 hours per week, the Fire Watch patrols the facility and active construction areas, ensures that all fire safety protocols are effectively followed, and maintains accurate, organized records in compliance with applicable codes and regulations. This is a temporary, part-time position well suited to a proactive, dependable individual with strong attention to detail and the ability to respond calmly and appropriately in emergency situations.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to walk and stand for extended periods and to patrol the facility throughout assigned shifts.
- Strong observational skills and keen attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to remain calm, composed, and decisive in emergency situations.
- Knowledge of basic fire safety practices and procedures, or the ability to learn them quickly.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining accurate, organized records.
- Reliability and punctuality, with a commitment to maintaining a consistent presence during assigned shifts.
Nice To Haves
- Prior fire watch, security, or safety-related experience.
- Familiarity with fire safety codes and documentation requirements.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification.
Responsibilities
- Conduct regular patrols of the facility and active construction areas to identify and respond to potential fire hazards.
- Remain alert and observant throughout each shift, maintaining a proactive approach to fire prevention.
- Ensure that all fire safety protocols are followed and that fire safety equipment remains accessible and unobstructed.
- Review and verify the accuracy of entries in the Fire Watch Log Sheet after each patrol, documenting all observations clearly and comprehensively.
- Use standardized formats for documentation to maintain consistency and facilitate easy retrieval of information.
- Organize and maintain all fire safety records on-site for a minimum of two years, ensuring compliance with legal and organizational requirements.
- Develop and maintain a systematic filing system for ready access to documents during audits or inspections by the Chief Fire Official or other regulatory bodies.
- Maintain other construction-related documents as needed.
- Follow established emergency protocols and respond promptly to fire-related incidents.
- Collaborate with emergency services as necessary.
- Report any unusual observations or incidents to the designated supervisor immediately.
- Adhere to all safety regulations and organizational policies related to fire safety.
- Assist the President and Coordinator of Construction Projects as needed.
- Perform other related duties to support overall safety initiatives.
