The Fire Sprinkler Designer designs and prepares layout drawings for fire sprinkler systems in commercial, industrial, and/or residential settings. The role applies fire protection codes and standards and works with project managers, engineers, contractors, consultants, and other partners to ensure systems meet applicable safety standards and client requirements. Designs may include automatic fire sprinkler systems, standpipe systems, fire pumps, underground systems, water supplies, foam systems, and water storage tanks. The position involves interpreting architectural, structural, and MEP drawings and reports; developing working layouts and final master drawings; performing hydraulic calculations and plot plans; and preparing material stock lists for fabrication and job sites. The designer coordinates and monitors production-related matters, including fabrication, installation issues, and inspection comments, and may assist with proposals, technical data, test procedures, reports, and maintenance manuals. Site surveys can involve extended standing and climbing ladders or steps. The role also requires communicating information to supervisors and coworkers and evaluating design information to resolve problems and identify cost- and material-efficient solutions.
