The Damage Control/Firefighting (DC/FF) Specialist serves as a Damage Control subject matter expert in support of the CNSP Fire Safety Assessment Program (FSAP). This role involves conducting shipboard assessments, policy reviews, and training for shipboard Fire Marshals and In-port Emergency Teams. The specialist is responsible for policy and technical issues related to shipboard firefighting, both within and outside industrial facilities. They plan, execute, and monitor short and long-term strategies and process improvements to enhance the firefighting capabilities of ships. This includes planning Damage Control Fire Safety inspections, providing technical guidance on Damage Control and Firefighting Systems, and monitoring the readiness and material condition of firefighting equipment. The position requires maintaining liaison with various naval commands and contractors regarding industrial availabilities. The incumbent works under the general and technical direction of the Force Damage Control Officer, with significant latitude for independent action and decision-making. Work is reviewed for the achievement of objectives and soundness of conclusions. The position requires frequent temporary duty travel (approximately 50%), potentially overseas, and work aboard U.S. Naval ships, including industrial sites and shipyards, sometimes with short notice. A pre-employment medical exam and a valid driver's license are required.
