About The Position

This is an entry-level position to become a qualified member of the Fire Protection Department. The Fire Protection team performs functions including Fire Brigade, Hazmat Team, and Confined Space Rescue, along with the daily implementation of fire prevention activities in an industrial setting. Fire Protection Technician Jr.s conduct fire prevention compliance walkdowns, provide fire watch for impaired fire protection systems, structures, and components, and complete necessary on-the-job training to become a Fire Protection Technician.

Requirements

Strong ability to perform routine and non-routine tasks in accordance with site policies, practices, and procedures.
Effective writing and verbal communication skills.
Ability to perform duties independently once qualifications are granted in a variety of environments.
High School diploma or equivalent is required.
Michigan Fire Fighter’s Training Council (MFFTC) Firefighter I &II or equivalent OR an associate’s degree in a related technical field OR certification in a related technical field.
At least one year of firefighting experience OR two years of work experience in a related technical field.
Valid driver’s license required.
Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.

Nice To Haves

Michigan Fire Fighter’s Training Council (MFFTC) Firefighter I &II certification or equivalent.
Confined Space Rescue training/certification.
Hazmat Operations and/or Hazmat Technician certification.
EMS training/license.

Responsibilities

Pass an initial and annual physical examination and an annual physical ability test to verify capability to perform job-related tasks in accordance with Federal and State requirements.
Understand and adhere to Cook Nuclear Plant procedures.
Be able to pass all initial and on-going testing/training to complete and maintain Fire Responder qualifications.
Conduct Fire Protection Program inspections and surveillances, including Fire Prevention Walkdowns related to Control of Combustible Materials and Hot Work Programs.
Conduct Fire Protection Equipment Impairment Reviews to determine potential scheduling conflicts, appropriate isolation boundaries, and compensatory requirements.
Perform inspections and maintain emergency response equipment.
Complete computer input and data manipulation.
Undertake other responsibilities, as assigned.
Complete On the Job Training (OJT) and Task Performance Evaluations (TPE) within a pre-determined period to obtain the necessary qualifications to become a Fire Protection Technician.
