About The Position

Dominion Energy is hiring one Fire Protection Engineer at the level (I, II, or III) commensurate with the selected candidate’s education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities. This specialty engineering role is part of the Corporate Risk Engineering team and covers risk and fire protection engineering across capital projects and operating units. The position has a hybrid 3-2 schedule: three days in the office and two days teleworking. The role is based in Richmond, Virginia. The engineer specifies, reviews, commissions, and supports fire protection and loss control systems throughout the company. Work spans industrial and high-hazard facilities—including offshore, battery energy storage, solar, petrochemical/LNG, and power generation—as well as traditional storage and commercial occupancies. The engineer provides technical expertise in fire alarms and suppression, with an emphasis on special-hazard systems used in energy facilities, and leads other risk engineering programs, including process safety, jurisdictional boiler and pressure vessel inspections, and public safety education. The position leads external property and boiler/machinery risk inspections and surveys, conducts internal surveys, and scopes and leads risk-improvement projects. As a technical fire protection and risk engineering lead on complex projects, the engineer provides expertise that can affect project execution, asset viability, and constructability. The engineer directs outside designers and engineering technologists, reviews their work for compliance with codes and internal standards, approves installations, reviews completed systems, leads commissioning, and accepts systems on behalf of the company. The Engineer II description is the mid-level summary for this role. Engineer II is the second level in the series and handles more complex applications of engineering skills than Engineer I. The position is expected to be fully competent in conventional aspects of risk and fire protection engineering.
