Fire Protection Engineer, R&D

FluidstackAustin, TX
$203,000 - $232,000

About The Position

Fluidstack is seeking a Fire Protection Engineer to join their R&D team. The company's mission is to make humanity more free by developing powerful AI infrastructure. They are focused on delivering large-scale compute power rapidly and are looking for individuals who are passionate about this mission. This role involves engineering fire protection systems for modular units and BTM plants, including detection, suppression, and alarm systems. The engineer will be responsible for calculations, layouts, and developing standardized designs for fabrication. Support for permitting and commissioning, including answering AHJ questions and passing acceptance tests, is also part of the role. Fluidstack operates with extreme ownership, velocity, first principles, and a passion for their work, often involving long hours at high intensity.

Requirements

  • Designed fire protection systems for industrial or mission-critical facilities.
  • Run your own hydraulic calcs and stand behind them.
  • Taken designs through plan review and acceptance testing.
  • Know NFPA 13 and 72 well and look up the rest fast.
  • Design for fabrication, not just for the code minimum.

Nice To Haves

  • Clean agent and water mist systems.
  • BESS protection (NFPA 855).
  • AutoSPRINK or HydraCAD.
  • NICET or PE track.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer fire protection in the reference design: detection, suppression, and alarm systems for modular units and BTM plants.
  • Run the calcs and layouts: hydraulics, coverage, and device placement owned end to end.
  • Develop the details that repeat: standardized designs fabricated into modules instead of field-built.
  • Support permitting and commissioning: AHJ questions answered, acceptance tests passed.

Benefits

  • Commitment to pay equity and transparency.
