About The Position
Performs specialized field and office work in fire prevention with responsibility for enforcement of fire safety codes, laws, and ordinances. This includes the inspection of commercial buildings to ensure compliance. Initiative and judgment must be exercised to recognize fire hazards and acquire code compliance. Field work exposes the employee to varying weather conditions, chemicals, noxious fumes, insects, heights, and confined areas. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and is reviewed through daily conferences.
Requirements
- High School Diploma/G.E.D. Certificate.
- State of Florida Fire Safety Inspector Certification from the Division of State Fire Marshal.
- Valid Florida Driver's License.
- Pass a background check which includes a polygraph.
- Fire Prevention Inspector I: Six (6) months experience in fire inspection, fire prevention or related field; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Fire Prevention Inspector II: Two (2) years experience in fire inspection, fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
- Fire Prevention Inspector III: Four (4) or more years experience in fire inspection, fire prevention; or an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience.
