Fire Inspector I
About The Position
Under close supervision of the Fire Marshal or designee, incumbents are responsible for performing a variety of inspections and enforcement activities of public, commercial, industrial, residential and other buildings/properties to ensure compliance with the International Fire Code (IFC), Nevada Revised Statutes (NRS), and Nevada Administrative Codes (NAC), and related federal, state, and local regulations in relation to fire prevention and suppression systems inspections and code enforcement. Actively participates in and provides public educational fire and life safety awareness programs. This is the entry level class for the Fire Inspector class series. Incumbents will work under close supervision of the Fire Marshal and will receive training and direction in performance of essential functions. The position will require incumbents to work at times autonomously and always professionally to complete essential functions and other duties as assigned. The incumbent will be required to conduct multiple types of fire related inspections on new and existing structures.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- International Code Council (ICC) Fire Inspector I–required within 4 months of hire
- Possess and maintain a valid State of Nevada Class C driver’s license appropriate for vehicles and other equipment operated.
- Valid CPR Card
- Pass a criminal background investigation.
Nice To Haves
- Associate’s degree in fire science or related field
- General knowledge of industrial, commercial, and non-commercial plan checking, fire prevention inspections, code enforcement, or building trades and construction as related to fire prevention
- Experience in fire operations
- International Code Council (ICC) Fire Plans examiner
