Performs difficult protective service work in fire inspections, fire investigations, fire prevention, and emergency management. This role is responsible for performing inspections for commercial, industrial, retail establishments, schools, health care facilities, and residential properties (upon request). The employee conducts a fire prevention program to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local fire laws, codes, rules, and regulations. Responsibilities include reviewing site plans for new construction to ensure fire code compliance. The work requires considerable independence and judgment in interpreting and complying with laws, and significant public contact requiring tact and diplomacy. The employee is subject to hazards associated with fire inspection, administrative, and firefighting duties, including working in extreme weather, exposure to heat, chemicals, moving mechanical parts, electrical current, confined areas, high places, atmospheric conditions, and OSHA level bloodborne pathogens. Respirator use may be required, and work may be performed in close quarters. Work is performed under the supervision of the Fire Chief and evaluated through observation, conferences, record review, and field reviews.
