About The Position

Prince George’s County Fire/EMS Department is seeking Fire Inspector III (Fire Inspector 3H), Grade H21, employees for its Fire Investigations Division. This professional-level team-leader inspectional position enforces applicable federal, state, and local fire and life-safety codes and standards in new construction, renovation projects, and facilities storing flammable or combustible materials, including explosives installations and high-occupancy buildings. The role requires reading and interpreting approved engineering plans and specifications for building construction, fire-extinguishing systems, fire-alarm systems, and fire-rated assemblies. The position involves working with contractors, owners, engineers, and the public; interpreting and explaining fire codes; issuing violation notices; and preparing correspondence, reports, and evidence for administrative appeals or court proceedings.
