About The Position
The Menlo Park Fire Protection District is recruiting for its Cadet Program, a one-year volunteer program designed to provide valuable hands-on experience for individuals seeking a career in the fire service. This program is hosted in conjunction with the College of San Mateo. The District's mission is to preserve and protect life and property from fire, disaster, injury, and illness, while also providing fire prevention services and engaging the community in emergency preparedness and disaster response. The district staffs 7 stations in the south zone of San Mateo County.
Requirements
- State of California EMT or National Registry EMT certification (or currently enrolled).
- Valid CA Driver’s License.
- Firefighter I Academy certification or current FF1 Academy enrollment with expected completion date of January 2027.
- Must not have been previously enrolled as a Cadet through the College of San Mateo.
Responsibilities
- Attend a specific day of the week for a 24-hour shift, in accordance with semester dates determined by the College of San Mateo.
- Register with the College of San Mateo for spring, summer, and fall semesters.
- Maintain "good standing" with the Menlo Park Fire Protection District and the College of San Mateo.
