About The Position

This position involves installing, repairing, and inspecting smoke and fire suppression systems, including fire alarm wiring, panels, and peripheral equipment. The role requires identifying hazards and defects, testing and repairing various fire safety components like detectors and sprinkler heads, and performing tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems. Extensive knowledge of electronics, cathodic protection, communications, and grounding systems is necessary. The mechanic must ensure work complies with relevant codes and perform general building maintenance as assigned. This role also includes requisitioning materials and preparing necessary documentation. Overtime, both scheduled and unscheduled, may be required, potentially in areas outside of the primary skilled trade.

Requirements

Must have ability to meet the requirements for issuance of a computer network account (favorable National Agency Check and successfully complete computer security training).
Any personnel performing work on fire alarm or suppression systems shall be NICET Level 2 Certified.
Four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Shall have a minimum of three (3) years' experience in healthcare facilities.
Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
Ability to write simple correspondence.
Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
Frequently required to talk or hear.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
Must be able to work in a sitting position for 8 or more hours per day.
Must be able to lift up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 50 pounds as needed.
Must be able to successfully pass, as required, a federal, state, or local government's background investigation.

Responsibilities

Installs, repairs, and inspects smoke and fire suppressions systems.
Inspects, tests, and repairs fire alarm wiring, fire alarm panels and peripheral equipment.
Identifies hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair.
Inspect, repair or replace smoke/heat detectors and sprinkler heads.
Repair and test dry/wet systems.
Tests fire alarm systems using appropriate diagnostic programs and equipment.
Performs tests on fire pumps and standpipe systems.
Ensures that work is in accordance with relevant codes.
Performs other general building maintenance as assigned.
Works job assignments, researches and requisitions materials, and prepares necessary documents and reports.
Requires working scheduled and unscheduled overtime work including areas other than respective skilled trade.
