About The Position

At the University of Notre Dame, technology serves as a vital engine driving academic and research excellence. As our digital landscape expands across multi-cloud infrastructure and artificial intelligence, thoughtful financial stewardship is essential to ensure our technology investments sustainably support the University's mission. To lead this effort, the IT Financial Operations team within the Office of Information Technology (OIT) is establishing a dedicated Cloud FinOps function focused on usage-based consumption modeling and forecasting. We are seeking a FinOps Analyst to serve as a strategic bridge between financial analysis and technical innovation. In this role, you will partner directly with technical teams such as Cloud Storage and AI Enablement to provide cost visibility, forecasting, and decision support. By translating complex usage and vendor pricing data into actionable insights, you will help leaders make informed resource decisions that balance performance, innovation, and cost efficiency.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • At least three years of professional experience.
  • Ability to work in the United States, now or in the future, without visa sponsorship.
  • Familiarity with financial modeling, data analysis, forecasting, and cost reporting.
  • Ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with technical teams, service owners, and leadership.
  • Strong communication skills to convey technical and financial concepts clearly.
  • Solution-oriented mindset focused on practical, data-backed recommendations.
  • Aptitude to develop technical fluency regarding cloud environments, artificial intelligence platforms, and pricing models.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting financial operations in higher education or complex enterprise technology environments.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial analysis and forecasting tools.
  • Experience and/or interest in developing expertise in Cloud FinOps, AI cost management, technology business management, or IT Financial Strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a working knowledge of OIT's multi-cloud environment, artificial intelligence platforms, and pricing structures.
  • Analyze cost and usage data to identify cost drivers, billing discrepancies, and usage patterns.
  • Partner with technical teams to estimate future demand, improve resource utilization, and drive chargeback models.
  • Collaborate with service owners to support usage-based forecasting models for cloud and artificial intelligence platforms.
  • Review vendor billing and usage data to validate charges, analyze expenses against budget, and support cost scenario modeling.
  • Support reporting and configuration of usage-based consumption tools in ServiceNow.
  • Monitor vendor pricing structures and metrics while translating technical and financial data into recommendations regarding tradeoffs among cost, performance, and service levels.
  • Contribute to governance processes that support innovation and responsible consumption.
