We look forward to saying hello. We are seeking a Finish Carpenter / Self-Perform Superintendent with strong commercial millwork experience to lead and execute day-to-day on-site work. This hands-on leader will manage daily field activities while performing high-quality finish carpentry and millwork installation in chain retail and quick service restaurant (QSR) environments. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly efficient, and thrives in fast-paced, deadline-driven projects—delivering consistent, brand-standard results across multiple locations.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of finish carpentry experience in commercial construction environments only
  • Proven experience working on chain retail stores and/or QSR projects (e.g., restaurants, franchises, national brands)
  • Strong millwork installation experience, including casework, paneling, and architectural woodwork
  • Ability to read and interpret commercial construction drawings and brand specifications
  • High attention to detail with a focus on uniformity and quality across repeat builds
  • Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and jobsite equipment
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a crew in fast-paced environments
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites as needed
  • Valid driver’s license

Responsibilities

  • Lead all field operations for self-performed scopes, including labor, equipment, materials, logistics, and daily production activities.
  • Supervise and mentor foremen, craft labor, and field engineers to maintain productivity, accountability, and professional development.
  • Drive project execution while maintaining alignment with budget, schedule, quality standards, and safety expectations.
  • Coordinate and direct subcontractors, suppliers, and internal self-perform crews to ensure seamless workflow integration.
  • Establish and maintain short-interval production planning and manpower forecasting for all self-performed work.
  • Lead incident prevention efforts through proactive hazard identification, corrective actions, and safety coaching.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with owners, architects, inspectors, subcontractors, and trade partners.
  • Resolve field conflicts, labor issues, and operational challenges quickly and professionally.
  • Manage field productivity tracking and implement corrective actions to improve performance and reduce inefficiencies.
  • Oversee quality control processes and ensure all self-performed work meets contract documents and workmanship standards.
  • Interpret construction drawings, specifications, schedules, and sequencing plans to direct field execution.
  • Coordinate inspections, testing, commissioning, and turnover activities with project teams and authorities having jurisdiction.
  • Support procurement and material management activities to ensure timely delivery and proper field utilization.
  • Monitor and control labor costs, equipment utilization, and production rates for self-performed scopes.
  • Collaborate with project managers on schedule recovery plans, cost impacts, and change management activities.
  • Maintain accurate field documentation including daily reports, manpower logs, production quantities, and progress updates.
  • Lead lean construction initiatives, pull planning sessions, and continuous improvement efforts in the field.
  • Ensure proper workforce staffing, crew balancing, and succession planning for field operations.
  • Demonstrate strong decision-making skills under pressure in fast-paced construction environments.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, professionalism, and a high-performance jobsite culture.
  • Provide leadership during critical path activities, shutdowns, complex sequencing, and accelerated schedules.
  • Train and develop assistant superintendents and emerging field leaders in company standards and operational best practices.
  • Maintain a strong customer-service mindset while protecting company interests and operational objectives.
  • Measure, cut, and install finish carpentry elements including trim, molding, cabinetry, doors, storefront interiors, and built-ins.
  • Install custom and production millwork in retail and QSR environments, ensuring strict adherence to brand specifications.
  • Interpret blueprints, shop drawings, and corporate prototype documents accurately.
  • Execute high-volume, repeatable installations across multiple job sites with consistency and precision.
  • Work within tight construction schedules, including overnight or off-hours shifts common in retail/QSR projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to meet deadlines and minimize disruption to active businesses.
  • Perform punch-list work, touch-ups, and final detailing to meet client turnover standards.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and a clean, safe job site.
