Requirements

  • Six months of experience in the identification and non-identification of individuals through fingerprint and palm print examination, comparison, and verification; or Successful completion of the fingerprint identification course offered by the Pennsylvania State Police.
  • Must obtain and maintain an active Commonwealth Law Enforcement Assistance Network (CLEAN) certification issued by the Pennsylvania State Police within the probationary period and maintain the same for the duration of employment in this job.
  • Must meet the PA residency requirement.
  • Must be able to perform essential job functions.
  • Must pass a background investigation and meet Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Operate Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) applications to analyze, classify, and compare fingerprint submissions
  • Review state and federal files to determine positive or non-positive identification of an individual and update related records
  • Examine mailed or electronic prints for legibility, sequencing accuracy, and correct demographic data
  • Evaluate identity determination requests from courts, legal staff, and criminal justice agencies
  • Send fingerprint cards or photos to other labs and criminal justice agencies, respond to calls, and resolve help desk tickets
