About The Position

The Commercial FP&A Intern is a full-time summer internship within GAF’s Commercial Finance Department, supporting financial analysis, data visualization, and financial modeling for the Commercial Roofing business segment. The role provides hands-on exposure to corporate finance, commercial strategy, and business planning, and reports to the Manager, Commercial FP&A.

The intern supports Commercial Roofing P&L analysis and modeling, planning and forecasting, and investigation of sales, profitability, and pricing trends. The role also uses Tableau and Excel to create dashboards and communicate performance metrics and financial insights to leadership and the field sales team. The intern helps examine commercial data, improve reporting processes, and troubleshoot discrepancies. The ideal candidate is pursuing a relevant quantitative degree and brings analytical curiosity, financial modeling knowledge, strong Excel skills, attention to detail, and collaborative communication skills.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Finance, Business Analytics, Economics, Accounting, or a related quantitative discipline; applicants should be rising juniors, seniors, or graduate students.
• Foundational knowledge of corporate financial analysis, financial statement modeling, and advanced analytical concepts.
• High proficiency with Excel, including complex formulas, PivotTables, XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, and scenario modeling.
• Demonstrated data intellectual curiosity and a desire to investigate underlying trends, test hypotheses, and solve business problems.
• Strong problem-solving ability, creativity, and ability to break down multifaceted challenges.
• Meticulous attention to data accuracy and ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build working relationships, influence by example, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Support financial analysis of the Commercial Roofing P&L and build or refine models evaluating pricing, volume mix, raw material costs, and manufacturing and distribution impacts.
• Assist with the annual planning process and forward-looking forecasts, using financial models to project business impacts, mitigate risks, and identify value-creation opportunities.
• Conduct root-cause analysis of sales and profitability trends and pricing variances, and provide actionable insights.
• Use Tableau and Excel to transform financial data from multiple sources into automated, interactive dashboards for leadership and the field sales team.
• Monitor commercial performance metrics and KPIs, synthesizing datasets to provide visibility into pricing execution and sales growth strategies.
• Present complex financial models and findings clearly to non-financial stakeholders and use data insights to support cross-functional action.
• Proactively audit commercial data streams, including Salesforce and ERP systems, to identify anomalies and additional data needs.
• Assist in creating procedures that improve data collection and organization and streamline weekly and monthly sales reporting.
• Learn the organization’s reporting mechanisms, help troubleshoot data discrepancies, and suggest system and workflow improvements.
