About The Position

Employees of the Legislative Assembly of British Columbia (Assembly) provide professional non-partisan services to support the democratic institution of Parliament and its members through procedural advice, administrative support and information services. The Assembly is an autonomous employer, separate from the administrative framework of B.C. government ministries and agencies. The Financial Services department is seeking a detail-oriented, organized, and client-focused individual for the auxiliary full-time position of Financial Officer.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in accounting, finance, or a related program, plus at least two years of accounting or financial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience communicating with clients and staff who have varying levels of financial and accounting acumen.
  • At least 16 years old and eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with an ERP system such as Workday.

Responsibilities

  • Processing payments on behalf of constituency offices
  • Reconciling expenses
  • Reviewing redacted receipts
  • Providing accounting and financial guidance to constituency assistants (CAs)
  • Preparing guides and training materials for MLAs and CAs
  • Assisting with the preparation of financial reports related to MLA compensation and expenses, constituency office expenses, committee expenses, and executive expenses
  • Supporting other financial operations processes like accounts payable, accounts receivable, and other department related activities
