About The Position

The Division of Strategic Enrollment Management & Student Success (SEMSS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) is seeking a Financial Manager. This role reports to the Divisional Finance Officer and is responsible for managing divisional budgets, assisting with financial planning and analysis, and providing leadership in financial reporting and compliance. The SEMSS team supports students throughout their entire enrollment lifecycle and is a key partner on campus and across Wisconsin. UWM is a large, R1 research university committed to providing high-quality education and fostering positive employee experiences.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; or commensurate experience.
  • At least three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in financial management, budgeting, or accounting.
  • Experience in financial reporting and data analysis.
  • Demonstrated understanding of budget preparation and management.
  • Must be able to work at a computer for extended periods, attend meetings across campus, and occasionally lift and carry financial documents or equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in finance, Accounting, Public Administration, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in financial management in a higher education setting.
  • Experience with grant and gift fund management.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in financial software and systems (e.g., MS Excel, Workday, PowerBI, Tableau).
  • Experience with university procurement and travel systems.
  • Experience advising or training staff on financial systems.
  • Excellent communication skills, as evidenced by application materials and interview(s).

Responsibilities

  • Assist in managing financial activities across SEMSS departments.
  • Serve as the Lead Worker for SEMSS financial staff and department clients.
  • Coordinate data management, budget preparation, and financial reporting.
  • Serve as subject matter expert on financial operations and recommend process improvements.
  • Evaluate funding strategies and make recommendations for enhancement.
  • Audit financial transactions and authorize payments.
  • Ensure compliance with fiscal policies and procedures.
  • Prepare monthly reports and financial statements.
  • Support procurement and travel processes.
  • Provide troubleshooting and support for financial systems.
  • Assist with grant and gift fund monitoring, including pre- and post-award processes.
  • Contribute to proposal development for external funding.
