About The Position
The Financial Counselor provides the skills necessary to interview patients for demographic, financial, and third-party payor information to determine their ability to pay for services. The role gathers and verifies patient information, identifies potential reimbursement sources, determines pay classification, calculates and collects charges, and assists patients with unpaid bills. The position is hybrid remote in Galveston, with a Tuesday-through-Saturday schedule from 10 AM to 7 PM.

- One year of related experience.

Responsibilities
- Gather patient demographic data required in the Hospital Information System during patient interviews.
- Screen patients for financial responsibility using the uniform financial screening document.
- Verify patient information by obtaining proof of residency, income, and third-party carriers.
- Determine potential reimbursement sources available to patients and direct them to those sources.
- Determine the proper pay classification of patients.
- Calculate charges for office visits and collect payment.
- Counsel patients about unpaid bills.
- Research invalid charge slips and create appropriate billing accounts.
- Create patient folders for required paperwork.
- Adhere to internal controls established for the department.
- Perform related duties as required.
