About The Position

The Financial Coordinator is responsible for securing accurate, timely patient insurance approvals and authorizations prior to evaluative process and admission for transplant/cellular therapy. This role involves significant interaction with attending physicians, managed care personnel, the care team, and transplant clinical coordinators. The Financial Coordinator will also work compassionately and tactfully with patients and their families to ensure clarity of financial care before transplant. A key responsibility is staying up-to-date on all insurance rules and policies regarding transplants and cellular therapy treatments. The role involves conducting transplant financial evaluations to determine requirements for transplantation and coordinating the timing of workup, cell collection, and transplantation in collaboration with the Attending Physician and Sr. Transplant Coordinator. Additionally, the Financial Coordinator manages all insurance requirements for existing and new cellular therapy products and communicates financial findings to transplant team members. The position also involves educating patients about insurance coverages, assisting them in obtaining fully approved coverage, and providing financial counseling to uninsured and underinsured patients. The role initiates the investigative process for newly approved cellular therapy products regarding authorization approvals. The Financial Coordinator interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with Jefferson's values.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 2 years’ Experience working in transplant or related field

Responsibilities

  • Secure accurate, timely patient insurance approvals and authorizations prior to evaluative process and admission for transplant / cellular therapy transplant.
  • Interact and communicate largely with the attending physicians, managed care personnel, the care team and the transplant clinical coordinators.
  • Work with patients and their families in a compassionate and tactful manner prior to transplant to allow for clarity of financial care.
  • Be up to date on all insurance rules and policies regarding transplants and cellular therapy treatments.
  • Conduct transplant financial evaluations with patients being seen by Jefferson’s transplant / cellular therapy program team to determine requirements for transplantation.
  • Work in collaboration with the Attending Physician and Sr. Transplant Coordinator to coordinate the timing of the workup evaluation, the cell collection and transplantation.
  • Manage all insurance requirements for existing and new cellular therapy products.
  • Obtain financial clearance information and prior authorizations for all phases of transplantation – workup, collection and transplantation.
  • Educate patients regarding insurance coverages and work with patients and families on obtaining fully approved coverage for transplantation.
  • Provide additional advice and financial counseling to uninsured and underinsured patients on corrective measures to obtain coverage.
  • Initiate the investigative process for newly approved cellular therapy products regarding authorization approvals.
  • Communicate financial findings to transplant team members including social workers, transplant coordinators, physicians, inpatient and outpatient care teams.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
