About The Position

Redwood Strategy Group (RSG) is seeking a Junior Financial Accounting Analyst to support a Department of War (DoW) financial management program. This position focuses on general accounting operations, financial reconciliations, audit support, and financial reporting. The successful candidate will support Accounts Receivable (AR), Accounts Payable (AP), U.S. Standard General Ledger (USSGL) analysis, accrual accounting, Intragovernmental transaction reconciliation (Trading Partner), journal vouchers, internal controls, audit readiness initiatives, and collaboration with the Defense Finance Accounting Service (DFAS) while supporting the DHRA’s Accounting Team. This role is designed for a junior professional who is eager to learn, seeks broad exposure to DoW accounting operations, and is adaptable and capable of rapidly mastering new financial processes and systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or related field.
  • 2–5 years of accounting or federal financial management experience.
  • Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), accrual accounting, and General Ledger concepts.
  • Experience performing account reconciliations, financial analysis, and researching accounting discrepancies.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, PivotTables, and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently in a collaborative remote environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new systems and processes quickly.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Tier 3 (or higher) background investigation and Common Access Card (CAC), as required by the Government.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting a Federal financial management organization.
  • Familiarity with DFAS processes.
  • Understanding of internal controls and audit support.
  • Experience with DAI, Oracle ERP, or comparable federal financial management systems.
  • Experience documenting business processes or SOPs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform analysis and reconciliation of AR and AP.
  • Review and analyze USSGL postings and account balances.
  • Prepare and process journal vouchers and accrual accounting entries.
  • Perform account reconciliations, investigate abnormal balances, and recommend corrective actions.
  • Perform intragovernmental transaction reconciliations and research discrepancies.
  • Support the preparation, review, and analysis of financial statements and related supporting schedules.
  • Respond to audit requests by researching transactions, preparing supporting documentation, and coordinating timely responses.
  • Work collaboratively with DFAS and DoW stakeholders to resolve accounting issues.
  • Support the Financial Reporting Team with recurring and ad hoc accounting, reconciliation, and financial reporting activities.
  • Assist in evaluating, documenting, and improving internal controls over financial reporting.
  • Develop and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), process documentation, and desk procedures.
  • Perform financial reconciliations and quality control reviews to provide reasonable assurance of the accuracy and completeness of DoW financial statements.
  • Analyze accounting transactions and recommend corrective actions.
  • Learn new financial systems, policies, and accounting requirements quickly.
  • Support other accounting and financial management tasks as assigned, including developing and uploading financial reports.
  • Support monthly and quarterly financial close activities.
