About The Position

Within the Business and Capital Planning section of Business and Financial Planning division and reporting to the Manager, Financial Policy & Development Finance, you will develop and maintain cooperative and collaborative relationships with internal and external business partners. Requirements

  • Relevant university degree in Finance/Accounting, Business or Economics
  • 3 years experience in a financial environment
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered
  • Strong computer skills (specifically in MS Office and experience with PeopleSoft Financial and Hyperion Planning is an asset)
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to participate effectively within a team environment and build and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external clients
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and a "self-starting" attitude to initiate projects
  • Demonstrated planning and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of generally accepted accounting practices and principles, applicable legislation, regulations and standards
  • Knowledge of Regional municipal issues, services, processes, financial policies and by-laws is considered an asset

Nice To Haves

  • CPA/CGA/CMA/ACCA accounting designation preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support Region of Peel annual budget process including input and upload, consolidation, analysis, and preparation and publication of budget documentation for ELT and Council
  • Support Region of Peel tri-annual financial reporting process including consolidation and analysis for ELT and Council
  • Support development of Region of Peel bi-annual compliance reporting
  • Assess financial performance against targets and providing variance commentary for corporate accounts such as Federal Gas Tax, Self-Insured Benefits, and Tax Levy
  • Manage Region of Peel capital budget activities on a monthly basis including project close-outs, capital financing exceptions, capital reserve reconciliation
  • Perform financial analysis and other duties as required
