About The Position

The Financial Analyst supports Edgewater’s Financial Planning and Analysis (FP&A) team through financial reporting, forecasting, budgeting, data analysis, and program financial support. The role offers a recent graduate or early-career professional an opportunity to develop expertise in FP&A, government contracting, project finance, and executive reporting. The position is hybrid. Candidates must be within the Washington, DC metropolitan area and able to work on-site in Reston, Virginia, or Frederick, Maryland, when requested. The analyst works with Finance, Accounting, Pricing, Operations, Program Managers, and business leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making, while learning government contracting and Edgewater’s finance and project controls processes and taking on increasing responsibility over time.

Requirements

Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
High attention to detail and ability to check work for accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a desire to understand the reasons behind financial results.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work with Finance, Pricing, Operations, and Program Management personnel.
Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to summarize financial information simply and in an organized way.
Interest in learning government contracting finance, including project financial reporting, contract types, labor planning, and indirect rates.
Ability to work in a hybrid environment and on-site in Reston, VA, or Frederick, MD, when requested; candidates must be within the Washington, DC metropolitan area.
Ability to meet the physical demands of office work, including talking or hearing, remaining seated for periods, computer entry, filing, lifting and carrying office supplies, occasional lifting or moving of up to 15 pounds, and fine hand manipulation such as keyboarding.

Nice To Haves

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or a related field is preferred.
Prior internship, coursework, or limited professional experience in finance, accounting, pricing, project controls, or government contracting is helpful but not required.
Exposure to Power BI, Tableau, or similar dashboarding tools.
Eagerness to work extensively with financial models, dashboards, and data sets.

Responsibilities

Assist with monthly financial reporting, variance analysis, and management reporting packages.
Support annual operating plan (AOP), budgeting, and reforecasting activities across the organization.
Analyze revenue, labor, subcontractor, and indirect cost data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
Maintain and update financial models supporting backlog, revenue forecasting, cash flow, and profitability analysis.
Prepare dashboards and reports using Excel, Power BI, and other reporting tools.
Support project and program financial reviews, including funded backlog, burn rate, margin, and utilization analysis.
Assist with indirect rate calculations, monitoring, and forecasting.
Collaborate with Accounting during monthly close to validate financial results and explain variances.
Partner with Program Managers and business leaders to provide financial insights and support decision-making.
Help improve financial processes through automation, reporting enhancements, and data quality initiatives.
Support special projects including acquisitions, contract pricing, investment analyses, and strategic initiatives.
Prepare clear and concise analyses, presentations, and executive summaries for leadership reviews.
Maintain organized backup documentation and support files for program forecasts and reporting.
Learn government contracting and apply Edgewater’s finance and project controls processes while taking on increasing responsibility over time.
