About The Position

The Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Iowa is seeking a Financial Analyst to perform complex accounting functions, budget, and financial analysis compliant responsibilities within the clinical trial operations of the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center (HCCC) Clinical Research Services (CRS). This position is eligible for a hybrid work arrangement after an initial onsite training period, with the majority of work taking place on the U of I/UI Health Care campus. Work arrangements will be reviewed annually and must comply with relevant policies. The role involves significant financial oversight, including monitoring and reconciling clinical trial accounts, advising on account usage, opening and closing accounts, analyzing financial statements, and maintaining a database for expenses and revenues. The analyst will also be involved in financial reporting, including patient account reconciliations, preparing and submitting invoices, monitoring outstanding accounts, and assisting with the allocation of patient expenses to insurance or sponsors using systems like EPIC and Tableau. Additionally, the position requires budget analysis, contract preparation, and serving as a liaison with various university offices and external parties. Leadership and compliance are also key aspects, involving participation in workgroups, contributing to best practices, and potentially providing training or supervision. The University of Iowa Health Care is Iowa's only comprehensive academic medical center, recognized for its quality healthcare, education, and research. Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center is Iowa’s only NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center, coordinating all cancer-related activities across multiple departments and colleges.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum 1 year accounting and/or financial experience.
  • General knowledge of accounting practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to Multi - task.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
  • Self-motivated with a passion for continuous learning and a desire to take on tough and challenging projects.
  • Experience managing complex financial information requiring strong attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in computer software applications, including Microsoft Excel and various database (PeopleSoft, Tableau, and Access).

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and reconcile Single MOG clinical trial account expenditures, irregularities, answer inquiries regarding usage and status of accounts; advise in usage and status of account; provide recommendations and implement corrective action.
  • Responsible for opening and closing clinical trial accounts.
  • Analyze and prepare monthly statement reports; maintain database record-keeping system to track all expenses and revenues.
  • Assist in the development of financial proformas for financial planning and presentations.
  • Analyze and audit account statements and reports to verify compliance with source of funding guidelines.
  • Maintain account balances and reconcile differences between various account balances and external sources.
  • Respond to financial inquiries from key stakeholders.
  • Complete routine account reconciliations pertaining to patients on clinical trials.
  • Prepare and submit invoices for services rendered by CRS faculty and staff (i.e., protocol administration and data management services); monitor outstanding accounts and routine account reporting.
  • Assist Research Billing Compliance (RBC) Office with filtering and assigning patient expenses to insurance or industry sponsor in accordance with the budget and using EPIC, Tableau, and Oncore.
  • Serve as liaison with the Joint Office of Compliance regarding billing compliance issues.
  • Monitor and Report internal and external payables.
  • Consult stakeholders and administrators on budget analysis and submissions for clinical trials with external financial support.
  • Analyze clinical trials budget amendments with industry sponsors and/or consortiums and cooperative groups.
  • Serve as liaison to University Counsel, accounting offices, faculty, staff, and industry representatives.
  • Prepare documentation; submit routing forms and obtain contract approvals as required; monitor and follow up as appropriate.
  • Participate on assigned workgroups and committees charged with reviewing CRS administrative level finances and practices; obtain and analyze information; provide recommendations; implement change as appropriate.
  • Participate on internally and externally workgroups contributing clinical trial billing and budgeting best practices.
  • Participate in internal and external training opportunities related to clinical trial billing and budgeting best practices.
  • May contribute to implementation of policies, guidance documents, and standard operating procedures.
  • May perform external reporting requiring compliance with reporting standards.
  • May provide training and functional and/or administrative supervision for staff.
  • Monitor and reconcile 45-50 Single MOG clinical trial accounts.
  • Process 4-8 budget amendments monthly.
