About The Position

This position serves in a lead support role to the Executive Director of Budget and Finance. The Financial Analyst will prepare campus operating budgets, revenue and expense projections, year-end close reports, and other specialized financial reports and analyses; provide direction and counsel to campus personnel to assist them in understanding financial reports and data, in controlling their costs and budgets, and in fulfilling budgetary requirements while ensuring compliance within fiscal policies; reconcile budgeted and actual revenues and expenditures for the university; provides support to Executive Director of Budget and Finance in development, implementation, and management of operational budgets; and performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Through this work, the Financial Analyst will align and track resources in support of the mission and vision of the Budget and Finance Office.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Two years of relevant experience
  • Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • Knowledge of accounting concepts
  • Knowledge of finance concepts
  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Ability to perform in an office setting is required
  • Ability to multi-task while remaining detail oriented
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills

Nice To Haves

  • MACC or MBA
  • (1)+ years of fund accounting experience
  • (2)+ years of work related experience in an accounting or financial management setting

Responsibilities

  • Prepares a variety of routine and standardized financial reporting on a timely basis as requested and/or monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, or annually; reporting will include an array of breakdowns and analysis of revenues, expenses, budgeted and actual amounts, and variances to include E&G funds, auxiliary funds, restricted funds, F&A funds, renewal and replacement funds, specialized fees and various other financial indicators
  • Manages and prepares routine budgetary reporting to the UT System Budget Office; this reporting takes into account budget cycles such as Proposed, Original, Working and Revised
  • Manages University reserve funds by reconciling, transferring and tracking both long and short term obligations or projects
  • Prepares journal entries and budget revisions as needed
  • Reviews departmentally prepared journal entries and budget revisions for accuracy
  • Provides setup, adjust, review and manage labor schedules as needed
  • Understands and advises departments on chart of account matters dealing with various account questions
  • Initiates creation of new accounts, deleting old accounts and changes to all chart of account attributes
  • Provides as needed training to DASH users on budget reports, labor distributions, and all general financial transactions
  • Fields large amount of incoming requests or queries to the Office of Budget and Finance; requiring advising and accurately communicating solutions regarding university fiscal policy
  • Serves in a capacity to assist in regular impromptu projects uniquely requiring both financial expertise and forecasting abilities
