About The Position

As an integral member of the Tumor Immunotherapy Program, the Financial Analyst I performs a range of entry level professional and detailed accounting requiring basic knowledge and fundamental applications of accounting theory and principles under the monitoring and direction of the Manager and/or Investigators. The Financial Analyst I will be responsible for the timely preparation and submission of sponsor invoices, monitoring and collection of outstanding accounts receivable balances, reconciliation of clinical trial revenues, and processing of internal and external invoices for payment, providing support in the development of clinical trial site budgets. Working closely with Principal Investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators, Sponsors, Contract Research Organizations (CROs), and Finance teams, the successful candidate will ensure that financial transactions are completed accurately, efficiently, and in accordance with UHN policies, clinical trial agreements, sponsor requirements, and applicable regulations. The ideal candidate is a highly organized and service-oriented finance professional with strong analytical capabilities, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced research environment. This position requires excellent communication skills, strong financial acumen, and a proactive approach to issue resolution and stakeholder engagement.

Requirements

• University Degree in Business Administration or equivalent
• 2-3 years related experience in an accounting environment with exposure to a range of accounting principles, practices and procedures
• Ability to analyze and interpret large quantities of financial and statistical data; systems thinker
• Previous experience in customer service or a customer-facing role
• Expert knowledge of computer application accounting systems & software applications, preferably in a Microsoft Office environment (i.e., Excel, SharePoint, Word, Access)
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated commitment to excellent client service and satisfaction
• Demonstrated problem solving skills with strong organization and time management skills
• Sound professional judgment, initiative, and the ability to multi-task and meet tight deadlines
• Adheres to confidentiality policy for sensitive financial data and information

Nice To Haves

• Working towards completion of a professional accounting program, preferred – eg. CPA or relevant combination of education and experience
• Previous experience in a healthcare setting is an asset
• Previous experience with research funding is an asset

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review, and submit invoices to sponsors, CROs, and funding agencies in accordance with clinical trial agreements, approved budgets, and study milestones.
• Monitor invoicing schedules and ensure timely billing for patient visits, study procedures, start-up fees, amendments, close-out activities, and other billable events.
• Collaborate with research staff to verify study activity and supporting documentation required for invoicing.
• Track outstanding sponsor receivables and proactively follow up on overdue invoices to facilitate timely collection.
• Investigate and resolve billing discrepancies, denied charges, payment delays and other invoicing related issues.
• Maintain accurate records of invoices, collections, sponsor correspondence and payment activity
• Reconcile sponsor payments to invoices and research accounts and prepare accounts receivable aging reports for management review
• Establishes effective working relationships with cross-functional team(s) and represents the company with external constituents
• Ensures that assigned work is completed in an accurate and timely manner in order to minimize disruptions to department workflow and other staff deadlines
• Support in the development of initial and amended budgets for clinical trials as required
• Other tasks as assigned and ad-hoc requests, which may include, but are not limited to, developing accounting system for clinical trials, contributing to business cases for program expansion/consolidation etc., or participating on special committees.
